The Havanese is a sturdy, cheerful, playful little toy dog with a double coat that requires a great deal of care. Weeky brushing and combing are needed if you want to avoid a matted mess. It is the only breed native to Cuba.They are good natured and intelligent, making them family friendly dogs. They don't bark much and make great travel pets including RVing. They do not like being left alone and can develope separation anxiety.

The ideal height of this breed is 8 to 11 inches. The ideal weight of mature dogs is 7 to 13 pounds.

The breed shares a lineage with the bichon frise. It was favored among Cuban aristocrats and Havana is the country's capital, hense the name Havanese.

The sole purpose of the Havanese is that of a companion and house pet. These dogs are outgoing, happy, affectionate, friendly and trusting towards all.

The life span of this little dog is 14 to 16 years.
