Possibly descended from the Arab greyhound or Sloughi, this is a very ancient breed. Over the course of centuries,
breeders have developed a fabulous hunting and racing dog. Its streamlined body makes it an excellent racer. It has powerful back legs.
These dogs are from 27 to 31 inches high and weigh from 60 to 70 pounds. The head is long and narrow. Everything about this dog is long, sleek and graceful. The hair is short and smooth. Coat colors can be black, white, red, blue, buckskin, tiger or even multicolored with markings.
It is very intelligent and reserved, sweet and gentle. It is sensitive, courageous and loyal. Ex-Racers make good pets. In the past it was used as a hunting dog for deer and boar.
They can do well in an apartment if given plenty of exercise. Greyhounds have a 10 to 12 year life expectancy.
