The Bulldog is descended from the Asiatic mastiff. The name bulldog originated from its use as an arena dog that actually attacked bulls, a practice that was prohibited long ago.

Bulldogs are short but tough little dogs. The height is about 13 inches and the weight around 50 pounds. This is a compact little dog with short legs. The short hair makes it easy to groom. The average lifespan is around 8 years.

The Bulldog comes in a variety of color combinations including brindle, white, red, fawn, fallow or piebald.

With a face that only its mother could love (er, and its owner) this once ferocious little dog now is a good-natured, loyal companion dog. They do well in apartments. They can also be good guard dogs.
