The Airedale breed is about one hundred years old. It was developed in the county of York in Britain and is a cross between the working terrier (an ancient breed) and the otterhound.
It has a bristly coat and the color is brown with black markings. It is about 2 feet tall and weighs about 45 pounds. They have a double coat that is soft underneath and wiry on top. It is also non-shedding. Their colors are black and tan.
In the past the Airedale was used for hunting and even used as a police dog. They are independent and territorial, making them good watchdogs. They are good hunters and have a lot of energy.The Airedale makes an excellent companion. They require lots of exercise.
They have a 10 to 13 year life span.
