The Green Catbird (Ailuroedus crassirostris) is well named, as its call sounds just like a cat. This emerald green bird is truly a gem. The neck and breast are flecked with white. The flight feathers are tipped with white.green_catbird

This bird makes its home in the rainforest. It is found in the Bunya Mountains and Gympie to southern New South Wales. It is a shy bird and forages for food in the lower and middle forest canopy.

The Green Catbird feeds on fruit and leaves. It breeds from September to January. The nest is a large, deep cup made of dried leaves and long, thin twigs. The nest is placed in thick foliage growing around a tree trunk. The clutch size is usually two cream or light olive brown eggs.

The plush Green Catbirds shown here were part of the Wild Republic Audubon Bird series. They actually made the sound of the Green Catbplush_green_catbirdsird when squeezed. Unfortunately, Wild Republic no longer makes the Green Catbird. They discontinued most of the Australian Bird series. They still make the Kookaburra.

These little Green Catbirds were only 7 inches long from beak to tip of tail. Wild Republic, maker of these birds, joined hands with CEBA to empower that line of birds. Each bird's lifelike design and detailing was the result of input from CEBA. The sound is an actual Green Catbird provided by CEBA (Centre Bioacoustique Alpin, Europe) and made by expert recordists. Wild Republic's affiliation with this bird organization emphasizes its commitment to nature conservation.
