The Arctic Fox (Alopex lagopus) lives in Alaska and across the top tier of Canada. During the summer months the fox is brown and gray with white underparts. In the winter it is white. The eyes, nose and claws are black. The male is larger than the female and is about 33 inches long and 10 inches high.

After a gestation of about 53 days, one litter of anywhere from 5 to 12 young are born between the months of April and July. Both parents care for the young.

Arctic foxes live in dens that are dug into a hillside. They usually have several entrances. They will eat the kills of other animals and also hunt ground squirrels, hares, fish, birds, bird eggs, berries, and voles. They have a lifespan in the wild of from 3 to 6 years.
